Photo a picture of co-operation

	To the editor,

Last May, I travelled to Vancouver to see the 1993 B.C. Bodybuilding Championships. I was pleasantly surprised to meet

a former Kitimat acquaintance, Teri Thom, who was serving as a trophy presenter.

Ms. Thom has risen up to the national level in bodybuilding competitions. She wished to thank and acknowledge the

Riverlodge Recreation Centre for the two years she spent training there at the start of her career by sending them and

autographed 8x10 photo of herself. She was not sure to whom she should send it, so I eagerly suggested she send it to me,

and then I would have it framed, and present it to Riverlodge.

As it turned out, this was not as simple a task as I had thought it would have been. I did not realize that minicipal

recreation centres could not accept pictures for display without approval from city council, and the recreation advisory

commission. At that time, (in June), there were no clear guide-lines in place regarding what is, or is not appropriate material

to display in municipal facilities.

On behalf of Teri Thom, I feel I owe a special thank you to Joe Iannarelli for drawing up some guidelines, and

recommending them to the city council. I would also like to thank all the other members of the recreation advisory

commision for allowing me to speak on Ms. Thom's behalf at their September meeting, and to Councillor Joanne Monaghan

and my friend Roger Papish for their advice and support.

Teri Thom's picture is on display in the Riverlodge lobby.
